Since the BMW system is broken down into 3 parts, we decided to start with the muffler portion. In order to keep the sound clean, we retained the factory midpipes and downpipes. We do have plans to change the downpipes with the Agency Power ones at a later date.Having proven themselves in other tuner car markets, Berk Technology has been doing R&D and showcasing their own Project 135i quite heavily on the 1Addicts.com forums. So as one of their dealers, we reached out to them on this system to use on our promotional car. With only 1 other muffler in existence, Bryan of Berk Technology fired up the welder and produced number 2 exhaust for us at Vivid Racing.The exhaust piece bolts directly on to the stock midpipes. The piping is kept at a 3inch diameter for optimum flow. He then splits the piping from the 3 inch to twin 2.5 inch piping which eliminates the stock muffler system and exits out the rear valance with beautiful chrome 3 inch slashed and rolled edge tips.As you can see from the pictures, the stock exhaust is quite hefty. The new Berk system takes off about 25lbs from the rear end. As we all know, any weight savings is good! The exhaust tone is PERFECTION. No drone in the cabin, allows you to hear the turbo spool much more, and when you do put your foot into the throttle, the car comes alive. Even the wife liked it so much, we made a comment on Facebook about how she was "riding in the car with the windows down listening to the 135I's sound". In combination with our Riss Racing Intake & Plenum and the JB3 Piggy Back ECU, this car made a substantial difference.As tested on our Mustang dyno, the Berk Technology muffler system made HUGE immediate gains. Because turbocharged cars do not need back pressure, this exhaust helped the turbos start spooling much faster. At 2500rpm to 3000rpm the exhaust picked up almost 50 wheel horsepower and 90ft/lbs of torque. This is purely related to back pressure and the stock exhaust systems flap for sound causing the restriction. Once the turbos are spooled up and we hit the mid range power band of around 3500rpm to 5000rpm the exhaust holds a steady 10HP gain while adding about 10ft/lbs of torque. The peak of the RPM band at 6600rpm really did not gain any power. This is related to the downpipes and midpipes. At this point the performance would greatly free up getting the car another 20 horsepower. The peak numbers ended up being 295rwhp and 334ft/lbs of torque. After we installed the Riss Racing intake here at Vivid Racing, we threw that bad boy on our Mustang dyno to see some results. We did 2 different tests. Our first test was with the existing JB3 MAP that we were using. The second test was with the upgraded JB3 stage map to get the best results from the intake kit. The intake held a consistent gain of about 10HP all the way to 5400rpm at that point it stayed consistent with the baseline test using the JB3. We attribute this to the exhaust restriction and not allowing the turbo move as needed. Once we changed the map on the JB3, the Riss Racing intake really shined. We picked up about 12ft/lbs of torque in the initial RPMs and that is important. Nobody drives at 6000rpm. We all want that initial hit and quick launch. What the RISS Racing intake kit really did for us as improve the throttle response and daily driveability in the low to mid RPM range. Before the car lagged and this intake helped the turbos spool faster. People need to understand that all these mods are like a puzzle and as you put them together they really come alive. With our next addition of the Agency Power downpipes and Berk Technology catback exhaust, we expect to see this car making 350rwhp on our Mustang Dyno. Put race gas in the car and run it on a DynoJet and you got yourself 400 to the wheels. Not bad!

While virtually identical in operation to the Bosch style valves as used from the factory on many other turbocharged applications, primarily Volkswagen and Audi, BMW has utilized a very different type of valve connection mechanism that makes their product and Forge&#39s replacement components very unique. Starting with the world’s best selling direct replacement Bosch style valve, Forge&#39s own 007P piston-based design, they have revised virtually every single component of the valve body, (except the internal piston), in order to retain BMW’s unique connection mechanism yet offer improved functionality in every other possible way.The entire valve assembly is precision CNC machined from T6-6061 billet aluminum alloy on Mazak CNC milling machines. Again, the valve is an aluminum piston based design, offering significantly improved reliability over the failure prone OEM diaphragm valves, yet with no change to valve response time. It utilizes ultra high temperature Viton brand silicone o-rings for sealing and Mobil1 fully synthetic bearing grease for lubrication. The valves are fully tunable for both boost holding capacity and response by way of proprietary interchangeable springs and shims (washers to marginally adjust preload). By utilizing this method of valve tuning with multiple custom spring rates, the valves will retain the maximum range of piston travel and flow volume regardless of which spring rate is used. Valves with a singular spring requiring that adjustments be made by continually adding preload will suffer from decreased piston or diaphragm travel as the spring tension is increased. Though these types of valves may hold high boost levels under load, they will actually suffer from limited flow volume at throttle lift when the valve vents.The hoses included in the kit are a custom made multi-layer fabric reinforced flexible silicone hose that are designed to allow compatibility with the stock airbox and charge piping setup without any permanent modification being required to adapt the replacement valves. Even the included hose clamps are overkill. They are specifically designed for use with silicone hoses, utilizing a beveled band edge and a pressed in drive mechanism rather than perforated. Alot of us have the K16 turbos on our Porsche 996 Turbo and like the quick spool. Not looking to break speed records, there is way to squeeze alittle more power from the K16's to pass their stock efficiency. The factory turbine wheel moves about 30lbs/min. With the 16G upgrade, you will see a gain of about 10lbs/min. Basically saying, the stock K16 turbos are good (based on turbo parts) for 550 crank horsepower. Of course depending on types of dyno's, boost settings, fuel tuning, etc, we would say at a 20% drivetrain loss for the AWD that it is more like 540 crank horsepower. This upgrade would increase the power output of your stock Porsche 996 Turbo K16's by (again based on turbo parts) about 60-80 crank horsepower. Maintaining quick spool with an OEM fit and headache free upgrade, you will see a large increase in mid to top end horsepower. By running the same amount of boost you do now on a flashed K16 car (1.0-1.1bar), you will make more power since you are moving more volume of air.
